Remote - Senior Azure Network/Palo Alto Engineer

Job Description

We are looking for a highly experienced Palo Alto and Azure networking engineer to assess and rebuild its existing virtual firewall environment.

The consultant will work within the current Azure environment rather than automatically starting over from scratch.

The immediate goal is to restore firewall resiliency and eliminate the current single point of failure.

The engineer should also be capable of assessing whether the environment should remain concentrated within its current region or whether a multi-region Azure HA design would provide a stronger long-term solution.

This project is separate from the Secure Horizon initiative, although that initiative is consuming internal resources and contributing to the need for outside support. The environment is currently managed manually rather than through Terraform or another infrastructure-as-code platform.

Skills and Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience with Palo Alto VM-Series virtual firewalls in Microsoft Azure. • Deep understanding of Azure networking and routing behavior. • Proven experience designing, implementing, or rebuilding Palo Alto high-availability environments in Azure. • Direct experience with active-passive firewall architecture and failover. • Personally completed this type of Palo Alto/Azure implementation more than once. • At least one comparable implementation completed within the last two years. • Ability to clearly explain personal ownership and hands-on responsibilities during previous implementations. • Experience troubleshooting firewall synchronization and configuration issues. • Ability to assess an existing environment and build upon it rather than defaulting to a complete replacement. • Ability to work independently and provide architectural recommendations with minimal oversight. • Ability to meet the U.S. citizenship and security requirements associated with the Azure GCC High environment. • Azure GCC High experience. • Experience leading similar implementations as an independent consultant. • Multi-region Azure networking and HA architecture experience. • Experience evaluating whether an existing regional design should be rebuilt or replaced with a cross-region architecture. • Palo Alto PAN-OS experience aligned with the version discussed on the call, approximately 11.2 H2. • Experience supporting regulated, government, or security-sensitive cloud environments. • Ability to provide both hands-on execution and senior-level architectural guidance.
