Overview

A leading broadband organization is seeking a Broadband Strategy & Market Intelligence Analyst to support strategic growth, market expansion, and long-term network investment decisions.

This is not a traditional GIS Analyst or network engineering position. The core of this role is broadband strategy and market intelligence.

The individual will help identify where the organization should expand its network by analyzing market opportunity, existing network footprint, competitive presence, demographics, broadband availability, potential customers, geospatial data, and financial considerations.

The role will help answer critical strategic questions such as:

+ Where should the company expand next?

+ Which markets offer the strongest opportunity for broadband growth?

+ Where does a fiber build, network edge-out, or overbuild make strategic sense?

+ How many potential customers or serviceable locations exist within a market?

+ Who are the incumbent broadband providers and how competitive is the market?

+ What level of penetration could potentially be achieved?

+ What are the economics of entering or expanding within the market?

+ How does an expansion opportunity fit with the existing network footprint?

+ Which opportunities should be prioritized for future investment?

The successful candidate will combine broadband industry knowledge with market intelligence, data analytics, geospatial analysis, and strategic thinking to turn large and complex datasets into actionable recommendations.

Key ResponsibilitiesBroadband Strategy & Market Expansion

+ Identify, evaluate, and prioritize potential broadband expansion markets

+ Support strategic planning around fiber expansion, greenfield builds, network edge-outs, and overbuild opportunities

+ Evaluate markets based on competitive environment, customer opportunity, demographics, broadband availability, network proximity, and potential economics

+ Help determine which markets should move forward for deeper engineering and financial evaluation

+ Develop market-level recommendations supporting long-term broadband growth

+ Compare multiple expansion opportunities and help prioritize where investment may generate the strongest strategic opportunity

+ Support business cases around new broadband markets and network expansion

Market Intelligence & Competitive Analysis

+ Analyze competitive broadband markets to understand existing providers, technologies, speeds, coverage, and market dynamics

+ Evaluate incumbent cable, fiber, telecommunications, fixed wireless, and other broadband competition

+ Analyze broadband availability and competitive footprint data

+ Identify underserved, underpenetrated, or strategically attractive markets

+ Combine internal company information with external market intelligence to develop a complete view of potential opportunities

+ Monitor broadband industry developments that could influence expansion strategy

+ Develop market profiles to help leadership quickly understand the attractiveness and challenges of individual markets

Network & Geospatial Analysis

+ Use GIS and geospatial data to understand existing network footprints and potential expansion areas

+ Analyze the relationship between potential customers, serviceable locations, competitive networks, and existing company infrastructure

+ Work with spatial datasets to identify potential markets and visualize expansion opportunities

+ Support analysis of homes passed, serviceable locations, market density, geographic coverage, and network proximity

+ Partner with network planning and engineering teams to understand the feasibility of potential expansion opportunities

The right person does not need to be a GIS Engineer. They need to understand how geospatial information can be used as part of a broader broadband market strategy.

Data & Analytics

+ Analyze large broadband, customer, market, demographic, competitive, and network datasets

+ Use Python and/or SQL to manipulate data, perform analysis, automate processes, or develop analytical models

+ Work with structured and geospatial datasets to uncover market opportunities

+ Combine multiple data sources to develop a more complete picture of broadband market potential

+ Develop repeatable analytical processes that improve how expansion opportunities are identified and evaluated

+ Create dashboards, maps, models, reports, and presentations supporting strategic decisions

Financial & Opportunity Analysis

+ Support market feasibility and network investment analysis

+ Evaluate potential homes passed and serviceable locations

+ Analyze subscriber and penetration opportunities

+ Support cost-per-passing and market-level ROI analysis

+ Compare investment opportunities across different markets

+ Help leadership understand the potential opportunity, competitive risk, and strategic value associated with an expansion

Required Qualifications

+ 3+ years of experience within the broadband, cable, fiber, or telecommunications industry

+ Experience supporting broadband strategy, market planning, market intelligence, network planning, network expansion, or similar strategic initiatives

+ Strong understanding of how broadband providers evaluate new markets and network growth opportunities

+ Experience performing market, competitive, or strategic analysis

+ Experience working with geospatial or GIS-based data

+ Understanding of broadband network infrastructure, including fiber and/or HFC environments

+ Experience analyzing large datasets to support business decisions

+ Ability to evaluate market opportunities using multiple factors including competitive, demographic, network, geographic, and financial data

+ Experience using Python and/or SQL for data analysis is preferred

+ Ability to translate complex analysis into clear business recommendations

+ Strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to communicate findings to both technical and business stakeholders

Highly Desired Experience

+ Broadband strategy

+ Broadband market intelligence

+ Market planning and market prioritization

+ Fiber expansion strategy

+ Network expansion planning

+ Greenfield analysis

+ Overbuild strategy

+ Network edge-out analysis

+ Competitive broadband analysis

+ Market feasibility modeling

+ Homes passed analysis

+ Serviceable location analysis

+ Subscriber opportunity analysis

+ Penetration forecasting

+ Cost-per-passing analysis

+ ROI or investment modeling

+ Broadband availability analysis

+ FCC Broadband Data Collection (BDC)

+ Census and demographic datasets

+ BEAD or RDOF exposure

+ ArcGIS, QGIS, PostGIS, MapInfo, or related geospatial platforms

+ Python

+ SQL

+ Data visualization and dashboard development

Ideal Candidate Background

The strongest candidates will have worked directly for, or closely with, a broadband, cable, fiber, or telecommunications provider and understand the business decisions that go into expanding a broadband network.

We are particularly interested in individuals who have worked in areas such as:

+ Broadband Strategy

+ Market Intelligence

+ Market Planning

+ Corporate Strategy supporting broadband

+ Network Strategy

+ Network Planning

+ Fiber Expansion

+ Network Investment Planning

+ Broadband Analytics

+ Strategic Geospatial Analytics

Candidates could come from broadband providers such as Comcast, Spectrum, Optimum/Altice, Frontier, Verizon, Brightspeed, Lumen, Windstream, Consolidated Communications/Fidium, or similar organizations.

What Makes This Role Different

This role is not about GIS for the sake of GIS.

Geospatial analysis is one component of a much larger strategic process. The individual needs to understand the broadband business and use data to determine whether a potential market represents a strong expansion opportunity.

You may be looking at an existing network footprint, thousands of serviceable locations, competitor coverage, demographic information, broadband availability, potential penetration, and investment requirements and ultimately need to answer:

Should we expand into this market?

Where specifically should we build?

What is the potential customer opportunity?

Who are we competing against?

What are the economics?

How should this opportunity rank against other potential investments?

That ability to take broadband knowledge + market intelligence + data + geospatial information and turn it into an expansion strategy is what will make someone successful in this role.
