Job Description A high-growth technology company focused on artificial intelligence, data platforms, and cloud-native solutions is seeking a **Principal Software Platform Engineer** to join its fully remote engineering organization. This opportunity is open to candidates residing in **Maine** who are passionate about building scalable infrastructure that powers modern AI and machine learning applications.

In this role, you will help shape the engineering foundation that supports advanced analytics, machine learning models, generative AI systems, and large-scale data processing workflows. You will serve as a senior technical leader responsible for designing highly available platform services, improving operational reliability, and driving best practices across cloud infrastructure and software engineering.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys solving large-scale technical challenges, influencing engineering direction, and building systems that enable teams to deploy and operate AI solutions efficiently and securely. You'll partner with software engineers, machine learning practitioners, platform teams, and security stakeholders to deliver robust cloud-based services used in production environments. Required Skills & Experience

+ 10+ years of experience developing and operating enterprise software systems

+ Strong background in distributed systems, cloud platforms, and backend engineering

+ Demonstrated experience leading technical initiatives and making architecture decisions

+ Extensive experience supporting machine learning infrastructure in production environments

+ Hands-on experience deploying AI and LLM-based applications at scale

+ Deep understanding of software platform design, system scalability, and resilience engineering

+ Experience with model lifecycle management, versioning, deployment, and operational support

+ Knowledge of retrieval systems, vector search technologies, embeddings, and RAG architectures

+ Advanced proficiency in Python and TypeScript

+ Experience designing and maintaining RESTful APIs and backend services

+ Strong AWS experience and familiarity with cloud-native application development

+ Experience with Docker and containerized deployment environments

+ Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code practices using CloudFormation, AWS CDK, or similar tools

+ Knowledge of observability frameworks, performance monitoring, and distributed tracing

+ Experience securing applications that manage regulated or sensitive data

+ Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills

Desired Skills & Experience

+ Experience building AI platforms that support agent-based workflows

+ Familiarity with modern LLM orchestration technologies and AI development frameworks

+ Knowledge of infrastructure optimization for AI inference and model-serving environments

+ Experience establishing platform standards for AI evaluation and quality assurance

+ Exposure to multimodal machine learning workloads and large-scale data processing

+ Understanding of model optimization techniques and production AI performance tuning

+ Experience working in regulated industries with compliance and audit requirements

+ Background in scientific computing, healthcare technology, biotechnology, or laboratory systems

+ Experience improving platform efficiency through automation and operational tooling

What You Will Be Doing Daily Responsibilities

+ Design and enhance the software platform that enables AI and machine learning capabilities

+ Develop cloud-based services that support scalable model deployment and execution

+ Build systems that improve reliability, availability, and operational efficiency

+ Establish engineering standards for platform architecture and software delivery

+ Support model lifecycle workflows including versioning, deployment, promotion, and rollback

+ Design secure infrastructure that supports customer data protection and tenant isolation

+ Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and tracing solutions across platform services

+ Collaborate with engineering teams to improve developer experience and deployment processes

+ Lead technical discussions and contribute to long-term platform strategy

+ Mentor engineers and promote software engineering best practices

+ Evaluate emerging technologies and identify opportunities for platform enhancement

+ Contribute to automation initiatives across infrastructure, deployment, and operational workflows
