Compensation: $3,067.50 biweekly, prorated for the contract term
Start Date: October 19, 2026
End Date: November 11, 2026
Position Summary:
democracyFIRST is seeking an experienced data staffer to serve as Deputy Data Director for the final weeks of the 2026 campaign cycle. The Deputy Data Director runs the day-to-day data operation for democracyFIRST’s paid canvass programs in Nevada, Michigan, and Wisconsin, reporting to the National Data Director, and supports the Arizona volunteer program’s data work as needed. The role covers early vote, ballot chase, ballot cure, and GOTV data: getting ballot status data into canvassers’ hands, keeping reporting accurate and current for leadership, and keeping the tools that power voter contact running.
This is a full-time, fully remote, short-term contract position and is not eligible for benefits. Given placement of staff across time zones, this person must be available during the 10:00am - 6:00pm ET hours, with evening and weekend work expected through Election Day.
Responsibilities:
Own the data for the Nevada, Michigan, and Wisconsin paid canvass programs, coordinating with the National Data Director
Keep Touchstone, our canvassing platform, current: load ballot return data so canvassers skip voters who have already voted, and keep walk lists and data flags clean
Source and process early vote and ballot status data by state, and build ballot chase and cure lists with the voter protection team
Maintain the paid-state voter contact tracker and progress-to-goal reporting that leadership relies on, and troubleshoot the data pipelines behind it
Pull and refresh universes and lists for doors, phones, mail, and digital, with each pull documented
Be the first point of contact for the state field leads on data questions and requests
Ensure data quality across Touchstone, VAN, BigQuery, Google Sheets, and the dialer
Support Arizona’s data work as needed, including VoteBuilder lists, reporting, and data entry across county and partner committees
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications (You will be a good fit if):
You are available to start October 19, 2026 and work full time through November 11
At least one cycle of experience with organizing tools such as VAN, plus a canvassing app, dialer, or texting tool
Intermediate experience with SQL and BigQuery (or a similar data warehouse) and Google Sheets
Experience managing large voter datasets and keeping them accurate under deadline
Ability to manage several tasks and projects concurrently, prioritize effectively, and get up to speed quickly
Ability to communicate complex data concepts to a non-technical audience
Experience working across departments and partner organizations to develop data-driven solutions
Preferred Qualifications (Not Required):
Experience with early vote, ballot chase, or ballot cure data
Experience with canvassing CRMs
1-2 cycles of progressive campaign experience, especially working with political data
Experience automating and managing Google Sheets (Apps Script or Python)
Familiarity with voter file data, election results, statistical models, and/or polling data
